Applications
have opened in Ghana for the first phase of 100,000 Google Career Certificate
scholarships, a major digital skills initiative aimed at preparing young people
for jobs in emerging technology fields.
The
programme, announced by Charles Murito, builds on commitments made last year in
Accra in collaboration with Samuel Nartey George. It is being implemented in
partnership with the One Million Coders Programme and Ghana’s Ministry of
Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations.

The
initiative offers flexible, fully online certifications developed by Google
experts, requiring no prior experience. Participants are expected to become
job-ready within six months across fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Data
Analytics, Cybersecurity, Digital Marketing, IT Support, Project Management,
and UX Design.
According
to the announcement, the programme is designed to expand access to globally
recognised digital credentials and reduce barriers to entry into the technology
sector, particularly for young people outside major urban centres.

Murito
emphasized that the initiative is part of a broader national effort aligned
with Ghana’s digital transformation agenda under a national AI framework
supported by government, industry, and development partners.
The
scholarships are targeted at learners across the country, including Accra,
Kumasi, and Tamale, with the goal of widening participation in the digital
economy and strengthening Ghana’s future talent pipeline.
