The Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union, Doreen Bogdan-Martin, has held a high-level meeting with Pedro Sánchez, underscoring Spain’s growing role in advancing global cooperation on artificial intelligence.

The meeting highlighted Spain’s leadership in convening the International Scientific Panel on AI at a critical moment in global technological development. The initiative is expected to contribute to evidence-based discussions on the governance and societal impact of artificial intelligence.

Bogdan-Martin expressed appreciation to the Government of Spain for its commitment to multilateral engagement, noting the country’s long-standing relationship with the ITU, which dates back to 1865.

The engagement comes amid increasing global focus on coordinated approaches to AI governance, with international organisations and governments seeking to balance innovation with responsible oversight and inclusive development.

Spain’s role in supporting multilateral platforms is seen as a key contribution to shaping global frameworks that address the opportunities and risks associated with emerging technologies.
