The
Governor of the Central Bank of Congo, André Wameso, has held talks with the
Secretary General of the Central African Banking Commission (COBAC) and
Permanent Secretary of the Committee of Bank Supervisors of West and Central
Africa (CSBAOC), Marcel Ondele, as part of the Democratic Republic of Congo’s
current chairmanship of the regional body.

The
meeting focused on reviewing ongoing activities within the CSBAOC, including
efforts to mobilise resources from member institutions, preparations for a
regional seminar scheduled for April 2026 in Kinshasa, and ongoing work on the
application of artificial intelligence in banking supervision.
Both
parties also discussed upcoming engagements on the CSBAOC calendar, including a
virtual meeting planned for the third quarter of 2026 and the 24th Annual
Meeting set to take place in November 2026 in Kinshasa. Deliberations further
covered plans to expand the association’s membership base.

In
addition, the discussions addressed key operational challenges facing the
CSBAOC, particularly issues related to financing, levels of participation among
member institutions, and preparations for the transition of the organisation’s
presidency to the Bank of Ghana in 2027.
The
engagement underscores ongoing efforts by regional banking authorities to
strengthen supervisory frameworks and enhance cooperation across West and
Central Africa’s financial systems.
