Cabinet
Secretary for the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital
Economy, William Kabogo Gitau, has appeared before a joint sitting of Kenya’s
National Assembly Committee on Communication, Information and Innovation and
the NG-CDF Committee, to provide an update on the progress of the country’s Digital
Innovation Hubs Project.

The
project, a key pillar of President William Ruto’s digital transformation
agenda, aims to expand access to technology, develop digital skills, and create
jobs across the country. Currently, over 300 hubs are operational, equipped
with more than 20,000 devices, while 199 hubs are under construction with
additional sites planned.
Kabogo
outlined measures to streamline coordination among implementing agencies and
ensure all hubs are fully equipped, staffed, and operational. A time-bound plan
has been set to bring 101 completed hubs online within two months, following a
first-completed, first-equipped approach for new sites.

The
Ministry emphasized that each hub would serve as a centre for skills
development and youth employment, supporting Kenya’s broader vision of an
inclusive digital economy.
Kabogo
was accompanied by senior officials including Eng. John Tanui, Principal
Secretary for ICT and the Digital Economy, and the CEOs of Konza Technopolis
and the ICT Authority, among others.
