Smart Africa has convened a delegation representing 20 African countries for a capacity building session on the sidelines of GITEX Africa 2026, aimed at strengthening the ability of public sector leaders to design and deploy artificial intelligence solutions.

The session brought together policymakers, regulators and ICT agencies, focusing on practical approaches to governing and implementing AI systems within government operations. The initiative was delivered through the Smart Africa Digital Academy in collaboration with Agence de Développement du Digital, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit and UNESCO.

Participants explored strategies for strengthening institutional collaboration, improving governance frameworks and accelerating the adoption of AI-driven public services across the continent.

As part of the programme, the delegation also visited the data centre at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University in Ben Guerir, where they observed advanced digital infrastructure supporting innovation, digital sovereignty and technological development in Africa.
