Smart
Africa has convened a delegation representing 20 African countries for a
capacity building session on the sidelines of GITEX Africa 2026, aimed at
strengthening the ability of public sector leaders to design and deploy
artificial intelligence solutions.

The
session brought together policymakers, regulators and ICT agencies, focusing on
practical approaches to governing and implementing AI systems within government
operations. The initiative was delivered through the Smart Africa Digital
Academy in collaboration with Agence de Développement du Digital, Deutsche
Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit and UNESCO.

Participants
explored strategies for strengthening institutional collaboration, improving
governance frameworks and accelerating the adoption of AI-driven public
services across the continent.
As
part of the programme, the delegation also visited the data centre at Mohammed
VI Polytechnic University in Ben Guerir, where they observed advanced digital
infrastructure supporting innovation, digital sovereignty and technological
development in Africa.
