Delegates
from Ethiopia, Senegal and Botswana have undertaken a study visit to Namibia to
observe the country’s electronic birth and death notification systems in
operation.
The
visit, facilitated by Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention,
included tours of maternity wards and mortuary services, where participants
examined how digital platforms support real-time registration and documentation
processes.

Officials
were able to observe how births are registered at the point of discharge and
how mortality data is captured and tracked through integrated systems,
improving efficiency and accuracy.
The
initiative highlighted the role of interoperable digital systems in
strengthening civil registration and vital statistics, enabling faster service
delivery and generating reliable data to inform public health planning and
policy decisions.
