The
Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Doreen
Bogdan-Martin has called for stronger collaboration to advance an inclusive and
connected digital future, as global stakeholders gathered at the Digital
Americas 2030 Forum ahead of the Ninth Assembly of the Inter-American
Telecommunication Commission.

Speaking
at the forum in San José, the Secretary-General of the International
Telecommunication Union highlighted the rapid pace of technological advancement
and warned of the growing risk of a widening digital divide if inclusion is not
prioritised.
She
emphasised that building a shared digital future requires a focus on
connectivity, innovation and inclusion, with people placed at the centre of
decision-making processes. According to her, meaningful connectivity must
address all dimensions of the digital divide to ensure technology delivers
broad societal benefits.

The
forum precedes the IX CITEL Assembly, where regional leaders are expected to
define strategic priorities for digital development across the Americas through
2030.
Bogdan-Martin
noted that the region has the capacity and expertise to drive an ambitious
digital agenda, stressing the importance of collective action in shaping a
future that spans emerging technologies from subsea infrastructure to
space-based connectivity.
