The
Chief Executive Officer of Orange Botswana, Nene Maiga, has outlined a vision
for a digitally integrated Botswana, positioning connectivity as a critical
driver of economic growth and regional integration.
Speaking
at Chobe Connect 2026, Maiga emphasised the role of digital infrastructure as
the “invisible backbone” underpinning modern economies, enabling seamless
connectivity, innovation, and cross-border collaboration.

The
address highlighted key priorities including strengthening network
infrastructure, advancing local data sovereignty, promoting digital financial
inclusion, and investing in youth digital skills development. These elements,
he noted, are essential to supporting Botswana’s ambition to emerge as a
regional digital hub.
Maiga
said ongoing investments in digital networks, platforms, and human capital are
central to expanding access to services and driving inclusive participation in
the digital economy.

The
remarks also underscored the importance of aligning national digital strategies
with broader regional goals, particularly within the Southern African
Development Community (SADC), where improved connectivity is expected to
facilitate trade, innovation, and economic integration.
Orange
Botswana reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Botswana’s digital
transformation agenda through sustained investment and partnerships aimed at
building a more connected and inclusive economy.
