The Ministry of
Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations is intensifying efforts to
integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) across public institutions as part of
Ghana’s strategy to enhance productivity and drive economic transformation.
The initiative was
highlighted during the National AI Expert Training Programme held in Akuse in
the Eastern Region, where Louis Quarcoo, Administrator at the 24-Hour Economy
Authority, speaking on behalf of Presidential Adviser Augustus O. Tanoh, underscored
the role of AI in strengthening governance, improving institutional capacity,
and enabling effective decision-making.

Tanoh noted that AI should
be viewed as a practical tool that complements human intelligence rather than
replacing it, emphasizing its role in helping institutions respond more
efficiently to real-world challenges. He added that AI integration is central
to the government’s 24-Hour Economy Programme, which aims to transform national
productivity through coordinated planning and increased output.
The application of AI is
expected to improve efficiency in key sectors, including agriculture through
irrigation management, yield modelling, aggregation systems, and reducing
post-harvest losses. It is also anticipated to enhance logistics coordination,
trade facilitation, customs processes, and the movement of goods across
domestic and regional markets.

The training programme
brought together public sector leaders to build capacity for the responsible
deployment of AI in governance and service delivery. Officials say integrating
AI across production, logistics, skills development, finance, and markets will
position Ghana to accelerate its digital transformation and strengthen its
competitiveness in the global economy.
