The International
Telecommunication Union (ITU) has highlighted the growing importance of
satellite connectivity in achieving universal and meaningful connectivity,
particularly for remote, rural and mountainous communities.
ITU Telecommunication
Development Bureau Director Cosmas Zavazava made the observation in remarks
delivered at the ITU–Intersputnik Training Seminar in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
Zavazava emphasised the need
for stronger capacity building, improved understanding of spectrum management
practices and greater regional cooperation as satellite technologies continue
to evolve.
He said satellite
connectivity can play an important role in extending communications services to
communities that remain difficult to reach through conventional terrestrial
infrastructure.
The training seminar
provides a platform for participants to strengthen their understanding of
satellite communications, spectrum management and emerging developments in the
sector.
Zavazava stressed that
effective capacity building will be essential to ensuring that countries and
regional stakeholders can take advantage of advances in satellite technology
while managing spectrum resources efficiently.
He also underscored the
importance of regional cooperation in developing the regulatory and technical
capabilities needed to support the sustainable expansion of satellite
connectivity.
