Ethiopia has hosted an interactive session with technology students at Addis
Ababa University aimed at introducing young developers to opportunities in
mobile money innovation and digital service development.
The
engagement focused on mobile money infrastructure and the use of the M-PESA
Developer Portal, where students were introduced to the application programming
interfaces (APIs) that allow developers to build digital financial solutions.
During
the session, participants explored how mobile money technology can support the
development of applications across sectors such as e-commerce, fintech and
digital services. The discussions also highlighted how developers can transform
ideas into practical digital solutions by integrating payment capabilities into
their platforms.

Officials
from M-PESA Ethiopia said the session formed part of broader efforts to
strengthen Ethiopia’s developer ecosystem and encourage innovation among young
technology creators.
Students
actively engaged in discussions, sharing ideas and asking questions about how
mobile money infrastructure can be leveraged to support the future of digital
services in the country. Organisers noted that initiatives of this nature help
empower the next generation of innovators while promoting the development of
locally driven fintech solutions.
