Newly
upgraded bioinstrumentation laboratories have been officially launched at the
biomedical engineering departments of the University of Ghana and Kwame Nkrumah
University of Science and Technology in Kumasi to strengthen training and
capacity in medical technology.

The
laboratories were inaugurated on February 26 under the Upskilling Biomedical
Engineers for Ghana project implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für
Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) on behalf of the Federal Ministry for
Economic Cooperation and Development.
The
upgraded facilities are equipped with advanced medical technologies, including
haematology analysers, X-ray systems, dialysis machines, anaesthesia machines,
infusion pumps and other diagnostic equipment designed to enhance practical
training for biomedical engineering students.
Officials
said the new laboratories will support market-oriented education by enabling
students to gain hands-on experience with modern medical technologies while
strengthening collaboration between universities and industry.

The
initiative also aims to improve Ghana’s healthcare technology capacity by
preparing graduates with the technical skills required to support hospitals,
health facilities and medical technology companies.
The
project is jointly funded through the develoPPP programme with support from
private sector partners including B. Braun Group, Delft Imaging, Dräger, Sysmex
Europe and Area 9 Lyceum, as part of broader efforts to strengthen biomedical
engineering education and industry readiness in Ghana.
