Secretary-General of the International
Telecommunication Union, Doreen
Bogdan-Martin, has held discussions with Pope
Leo XIV and Pietro Parolin on the
future of emerging technologies and their impact on society.
The meeting focused on key global technology issues
including artificial intelligence, outer space governance, the development of
the internet, and the broader direction of the world’s digital future.

During the engagement, Bogdan-Martin emphasized the
importance of ensuring that technological advancement remains aligned with
human values and global responsibility. She noted that technologies such as
artificial intelligence and space-based systems must be guided by ethical
principles and designed to serve humanity and the common good.
The
discussion also highlighted the growing role of international cooperation in
shaping policies and frameworks that support responsible innovation while
addressing the societal implications of rapidly evolving digital technologies.
