The
seventh cohort of the International Programme for
ICT Regulators (iPRIS) has resumed its activities in Ghana, bringing together telecommunications
regulators from across Africa to review progress and advance the implementation
of reform initiatives within their respective institutions.
Participants from Ghana,
Kenya, Botswana,
Lesotho, Malawi
and The Gambia are assessing the progress
of their Change Initiatives and discussing strategies to address emerging
challenges in the implementation phase of the programme.
The current session marks an
important stage in the cohort’s cycle, following an initial meeting in Stockholm where participants developed new
concepts aimed at introducing operational changes within their regulatory
organisations. The discussions in Ghana are now focused on translating those
concepts into practical actions and evaluating field activities across
participating institutions.
During the programme, regulators will
present updates on their national reform initiatives, reflecting on successes,
challenges and lessons learned. The engagement also provides a platform for
peer learning and collaboration among regulators working to strengthen
telecommunications governance across the continent.
Regional regulatory bodies including
the West Africa Telecommunications Regulators
Assembly, East African Communications
Organisation and the Communications
Regulators Association of Southern Africa are expected to participate in
the discussions to help align national reforms with broader African regulatory
frameworks.
The
week-long programme includes collaborative sessions aimed at developing
operational solutions and encouraging knowledge exchange among regulators as
they work to improve regulatory effectiveness and strengthen Africa’s digital
communications sector.
