The
Vodacom Foundation has partnered with the Gauteng Department of Education to invest R2
million in the School of Excellence model at Usizolwethu
Special Needs School in Daveyton,
aimed at enhancing digital education for learners with intellectual
disabilities.

The initiative introduces advanced information and
communications technology equipment and digital skills training to support
inclusive and quality education. The project forms part of Vodacom’s broader
education strategy, which has supported approximately 40,000 learners across 39
schools nationwide since 2019 through the School of Excellence programme.
The investment will provide the
school with upgraded ICT infrastructure, improved connectivity, a solar power
solution and a vegetable garden to support sustainability initiatives. The
programme also aligns with Education Vision 2030,
which seeks to expand digital learning opportunities across the country.

Takalani
Netshitenzhe,
Director of External Affairs at Vodacom South
Africa, said the partnership demonstrates how collaboration between the
public and private sectors can create new opportunities for young people in the
digital economy.
Vodacom
has invested more than R40 million in the Schools of Excellence initiative to
address systemic challenges in education and promote equitable access to
digital learning resources across South Africa.
