of the Freedom Online Coalition Geneva
Diplomatic Network has convened at the Giga
Connectivity Centre – Biotech Campus to launch the network’s activities
for the year and discuss priorities under the 2026 Programme of Action.
The meeting brought together coalition members, the
FOC Advisory Network and other Geneva-based stakeholders to review strategic
engagement plans and coordination efforts in the lead-up to the Global Dialogue on AI Governance 2026 scheduled
for July.

During the session, Hassan Thuillard of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs presented
the Geneva Diplomatic Network’s 2026 workplan, outlining key activities and
engagement opportunities throughout the year. Isabelle
Lois from the Federal Office of
Communications provided an overview of the Programme of Action’s
priorities and milestones.
Contributions were also made by
members of the advisory network, including Shumaila
Hussain Shahani of the Tech Global
Institute, who highlighted the importance of a multistakeholder approach
to digital governance.

Participants engaged in a moderated
discussion focused on preparations for the upcoming UN Global Dialogue on AI
Governance, examining the roadmap, planned consultations and coordination
mechanisms needed to support the initiative.
The
meeting also explored how Geneva-based diplomatic engagement could support the
implementation of the 2026 Programme of Action. The event concluded with
networking sessions aimed at strengthening collaboration among participating
institutions throughout the year.
