Ethio telecom and ZTE
Corporation have finalized a landmark network expansion and modernization
agreement at the Mobile World Congress 2026, aiming to significantly strengthen
Ethiopia’s digital infrastructure and expand nationwide connectivity.
The agreement covers 647
network sites, including 115 rural locations, and is expected to raise 4G
population coverage to 95.5%, extending high-speed mobile broadband services to
millions of citizens, businesses, and underserved communities.

Tamru and the company’s executive management engaged in strategic discussions
with ZTE leadership, solidifying their long-standing partnership and exploring
ways to accelerate Ethio telecom’s corporate strategy, “Next Horizon: Digital
& Beyond 2028.”
The initiative will enhance
network capacity, coverage, and service quality while supporting Ethiopia’s
broader digital transformation goals. By providing reliable connectivity and
enabling innovative digital services, the program aims to empower communities,
institutions, and enterprises across the country.

Ethio telecom reaffirmed its
commitment to investing in advanced technologies and strategic collaborations
to position Ethiopia as a leading digital hub in Africa.
