The National
Communications Authority has launched the Somalia
Computer Incident Response Team (SOMCIRT), marking a major step in
strengthening the country’s national cybersecurity framework and improving its
ability to detect, respond to and manage cyber threats.

The initiative was inaugurated by Hamza Abdi Barre, Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, underscoring the
government’s commitment to building a secure and resilient digital environment
and protecting critical digital infrastructure.
SOMCIRT is expected to play a key role in monitoring
cybersecurity risks, coordinating responses to cyber incidents and supporting
national efforts to safeguard digital systems across public and private
sectors.
The launch also highlighted the
leadership of Mustafa Y. Sheik, Director
General of the National Communications Authority, whose efforts have supported
the development of Somalia’s cybersecurity capabilities and the establishment
of the new national incident response team.

Officials
say the initiative forms part of broader efforts to strengthen digital trust
and resilience as Somalia continues to
expand its digital infrastructure and services.
