Ethio Telecom CEO meets Chad’s Telecom Minister to explore digital collaboration

Frehiwot Tamru has held a strategic meeting with H.E. Boukar Michel, Minister
of Telecommunications, Digital Economy and Digitalization of Administration of
Chad, at the just-ended Mobile World Congress 2026 in Barcelona, to discuss
potential cooperation in advancing Chad’s digital transformation. The Minister
and his delegation visited the Ethio telecom booth, reviewing the company’s
digital initiatives and advanced solutions beyond connectivity.
During the meeting, the Minister
praised Ethio telecom’s achievements, noting its success in expanding telecom
infrastructure, nationwide fiber networks, cloud services, mobile money
platforms, and device initiatives as an example for other African operators.
Discussions
focused on collaboration opportunities, including the development of telecom
infrastructure, broadband expansion via 4G and 5G networks, cloud services,
digital financial services, and improving access to internet-enabled devices.
CEO Tamru
emphasized Ethio telecom’s readiness to share expertise and proposed sending a
technical delegation to Chad to assess the current telecom landscape and
identify areas for collaboration. Both sides agreed to continue engagements
after the congress, reinforcing the commitment to regional cooperation and
accelerating digital transformation across Africa.
