The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) convened its annual World Standards Cooperation meeting, bringing together key partners, including the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The meeting was attended by ITU Secretary‑General Doreen Bogdan-Martin and ITU Telecommunication Standardization Bureau Director Seizo Onoe.

The gathering reaffirmed the commitment of international standards bodies to collaboration in an increasingly fragmented technological landscape. Participants highlighted the critical role of international standards in fostering trust, enabling interoperability, and ensuring that technology delivers tangible benefits to societies worldwide.

Mr. Sangbu Kim, Vice President at the World Bank, emphasized the evolving significance of standards, noting that they are moving from “invisible infrastructure” to critical infrastructure that shapes development policy and global economic growth.

Officials praised the ongoing partnership between ITU, IEC, and ISO as a forward-looking effort that strengthens the foundation for secure, interoperable, and globally aligned technological systems.

The meeting underscored the importance of standards in supporting innovation while addressing complex global challenges.
