Airtel
has announced a partnership with Google to strengthen spam protection in India
through secure, AI-powered Rich Communications Services (RCS) messaging.
The
collaboration combines Airtel’s network intelligence with Google’s RCS platform
and spam filtering capabilities to provide users with enhanced messaging
features alongside improved safeguards against mobile spam and digital fraud.
The integrated solution enables rich messaging functions such as high-quality
photo and video sharing, as well as interactive elements including message
reactions.
Under
the partnership, telecom-grade spam detection and filtering measures will be
extended to RCS messaging, reflecting the growing shift toward modern,
data-based communication channels.
Airtel
stated that it has blocked 71 billion spam calls and 2.9 billion spam SMS
messages to date. The company said the new initiative aims to build on these
efforts by applying similar protective measures to next-generation messaging
services.
The
move comes amid increasing concerns over digital fraud and unsolicited
communications, with operators and technology companies seeking to deploy
advanced tools, including artificial intelligence, to enhance user safety and
trust in mobile communications.
