The mid-term review of the Kenya Digital Economy Acceleration Project has been held, bringing together the Ministry of Information, Communication and the Digital Economy, the ICT Authority, beneficiary agencies and the World Bank to evaluate implementation progress and agree on priority actions for the next phase.

The
mission focused on advancing Kenya’s digital transformation agenda through
expanded internet access, strengthened government digital services and the
development of essential digital skills among citizens.
Participants
highlighted preparatory initiatives aimed at expanding broadband coverage,
improving the enabling environment for the digital economy and enhancing
connectivity for educational institutions and government sites. Other
achievements discussed included efforts to improve efficiency and security in
government operations, digitize selected public services and build digital
skills to support economic growth.

Project
Coordinator and Director Thomas Bwaley commended technical teams, focal points
and participating agencies for their engagement, noting steady progress since
the previous mission in October. He emphasized the need to accelerate
high-impact flagship activities in the remaining implementation period to
ensure the project achieves its development objectives by closure.
The
World Bank called for a more targeted approach in the second half of the
project, aligned with the revised results framework, to fast-track priority
initiatives. The institution acknowledged strong government ownership and
institutional commitment, expressing confidence that intensified collaboration
will secure satisfactory project performance and successful outcomes.
