ITU official pays courtesy call on ATU Secretary-General in Nairobi

The Deputy Director of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Telecommunication Standardization Bureau, Dr. Bilel Jamoussi has paid a courtesy call on the Secretary-General of the African Telecommunications Union (ATU), John Omo, in Nairobi.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the AI for Sustainable Development Forum, which Dr. Jamoussi is attending in the Kenyan capital. Discussions between the two leaders focused on strengthening collaboration between the ITU and ATU, with particular emphasis on advancing joint standardization priorities.

Both parties also aligned on the importance of capacity development to support African countries in effectively adopting and implementing international telecommunications standards, especially in emerging areas such as artificial intelligence.

The engagement reflects the continued cooperation between the ITU and ATU in promoting harmonized standards and building technical capacity to support Africa’s digital transformation agenda.
