The
Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute has established artificial
intelligence (AI) clubs in selected schools in Gondar city as part of efforts
to promote digital skills development among young learners.
The
initiative, undertaken in collaboration with the University of Gondar, led to
the formation of AI circles at three institutions: Gondar University Model
Boarding School, Gondar University Community School, and Fasiledes School. The
launch was conducted in the presence of officials from both the Institute and
the University.

Speaking
at the event, the Deputy Director General of the Ethiopian Artificial
Intelligence Institute, Mr. Teghsu Desalegn, stated that the establishment of
AI clubs forms part of a broader national strategy aimed at raising awareness
of artificial intelligence among youth and adolescents. He noted that the
program seeks to cultivate interest in emerging technologies while encouraging
young people to adopt a forward-looking perspective.
The
President of the University of Gondar, Dr. Asrat Atsedewin, emphasized the
significance of the initiative, indicating that the AI circles would play an
important role in helping students understand the evolving technological
landscape. He added that early exposure to AI concepts is essential for
preparing the next generation of innovators.

According
to the Institute, the newly formed clubs will provide a platform for students
to develop foundational knowledge and practical skills in artificial
intelligence. The program is expected to support local teenagers in exploring
innovation opportunities and strengthening their engagement with digital
technologies.
