The
National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has reiterated its
commitment to strengthening inter-agency and international collaboration to
accelerate Nigeria’s digital transformation, following a strategic engagement
with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

The
meeting, held as part of efforts to advance Nigeria’s digital economy agenda,
saw the Director General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, represented by Dr.
Dimie Shively Warowie, Director of Corporate Planning and Strategy, engage with
the ITU, represented by Dr. Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava, who recently took office
as Director of the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT).
Discussions
centered on a shared ambition to deliver universal, meaningful, and affordable
connectivity for all Nigerians, while safeguarding the digital space. The ITU
highlighted Nigeria’s growing regulatory maturity, noting the country’s
attainment of G5-level collaborative regulation, and commended the leadership
of the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun
Tijjani.

Beyond
commendations, the ITU reaffirmed its readiness to support NITDA through
technical assistance, cybersecurity tools, and initiatives aimed at expanding
inclusive connectivity and establishing functional digital transformation
centres across the country.
Speaking
on behalf of the NITDA Director-General, Dr. Warowie outlined the agency’s
strategic priorities, including digital skills development, strengthening
cybersecurity resilience, promoting innovation and digital entrepreneurship,
and harmonising regulatory frameworks and technical standards.
Both
NITDA and the ITU expressed strong commitment to sustained collaboration,
identifying digital literacy, cybersecurity capacity building, innovation
support, school connectivity, and regulatory alignment as immediate areas of
focus. The renewed partnership reflects a collective resolve to leverage
institutional expertise and synergies to advance Nigeria’s digital
transformation agenda and build a more inclusive, secure, and competitive
digital economy.
