The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has reiterated its commitment to strengthening inter-agency and international collaboration to accelerate Nigeria’s digital transformation, following a strategic engagement with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

The meeting, held as part of efforts to advance Nigeria’s digital economy agenda, saw the Director General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, represented by Dr. Dimie Shively Warowie, Director of Corporate Planning and Strategy, engage with the ITU, represented by Dr. Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava, who recently took office as Director of the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT).

Discussions centered on a shared ambition to deliver universal, meaningful, and affordable connectivity for all Nigerians, while safeguarding the digital space. The ITU highlighted Nigeria’s growing regulatory maturity, noting the country’s attainment of G5-level collaborative regulation, and commended the leadership of the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijjani.

Beyond commendations, the ITU reaffirmed its readiness to support NITDA through technical assistance, cybersecurity tools, and initiatives aimed at expanding inclusive connectivity and establishing functional digital transformation centres across the country.

Speaking on behalf of the NITDA Director-General, Dr. Warowie outlined the agency’s strategic priorities, including digital skills development, strengthening cybersecurity resilience, promoting innovation and digital entrepreneurship, and harmonising regulatory frameworks and technical standards.

Both NITDA and the ITU expressed strong commitment to sustained collaboration, identifying digital literacy, cybersecurity capacity building, innovation support, school connectivity, and regulatory alignment as immediate areas of focus. The renewed partnership reflects a collective resolve to leverage institutional expertise and synergies to advance Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda and build a more inclusive, secure, and competitive digital economy.
