Ghana’s
Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey
George, has commended the Patents and Companies Registration Agency (PACRA) for
its advanced digital systems in the registration of businesses and intellectual
property rights.

The
Minister made the remarks during a visit to PACRA House in Lusaka, where he
expressed satisfaction with the agency’s seamless online business registration
platform, which allows companies to register from anywhere in the world.
During
a meeting with PACRA management, Hon. George underscored the need to establish
institutional arrangements between PACRA and Ghana’s Office of the Registrar of
Companies to facilitate reciprocal investments and ease cross-border business
registration between the two countries.
Hon.
George, who is in Zambia ahead of a state visit by Ghanaian President John
Dramani Mahama at the invitation of President Hakainde Hichilema, described
Zambia as a regional technology hub and assured PACRA of a growing influx of
Ghanaian businesses seeking to register and operate in the country.

He
emphasized the importance of PACRA’s role in enabling foreign investment,
noting that Ghanaian companies would rely on the agency as their entry point
into the Zambian market. He also appealed for PACRA’s support in protecting the
intellectual property rights of Ghanaian firms establishing operations in
Zambia.
PACRA
Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Benson Mpalo, said the agency has
prioritized digital innovation to improve service delivery while reducing the
need for physical interactions with clients. He highlighted the recently
launched Beneficial Ownership and Business Register, which is expected to
enhance system integration with regulatory bodies and private sector
institutions, including banks.
