The
National ICT Innovation Hub (NIIH) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding
with Lwera Electronics and Semiconductors Limited (LES) to reinforce Uganda’s
ICT innovation ecosystem through targeted capacity building and deep-tech
development.

The
strategic partnership will focus on skills development, mentorship, and applied
innovation, with particular emphasis on electronics, chip design, and
semiconductor technologies. By aligning NIIH’s innovation support
infrastructure with LES’s technical expertise and research capabilities, the
collaboration aims to equip youth, startups, and local innovators with
practical, industry-relevant skills.
Under
the agreement, the two institutions will work to create pathways for knowledge
transfer, industry linkages, and commercialization of locally developed
technologies. The initiative is expected to enhance Uganda’s capacity in
advanced technology domains while supporting the growth of startups and
early-stage enterprises.

The
partnership directly contributes to the objectives of the Digital Uganda
Vision, the Digital Transformation Roadmap, and the Fourth National Development
Plan, positioning innovation and skills development as key drivers of
socio-economic growth.
Through
this collaboration, NIIH and LES seek to lay a foundation for sustainable and
scalable innovation that strengthens Uganda’s digital economy and supports
long-term national development.
