A
new digital laboratory has been inaugurated at Phefeni Secondary School in
Soweto, aiming to provide young learners with access to advanced digital
infrastructure and learning opportunities. The opening ceremony was attended by
the Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Solly Malatsi, and
representatives from Microsoft.

The
lab is designed to serve as a “cyberlab,” offering students from disadvantaged
communities the tools and environment needed to develop essential digital
skills. Officials emphasized that access to such resources is a key equalizer,
ensuring that all learners, regardless of their location, can participate in
South Africa’s growing digital economy.

The
initiative is part of broader efforts to expand digital inclusion and literacy,
equipping students to engage with technology, connect with peers globally, and
prepare for future opportunities in a digitally driven world.
