The
Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) has begun regional
consultations on the Cybercrime Bill, seeking public input to ensure the
legislation is practical, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of all
Namibians.

The
consultations kicked off in Oshakati, bringing together community members,
traditional authorities, educators, youth, civil society representatives, SMEs,
financial institutions, ICT professionals, and law enforcement officials from
the Oshana, Oshikoto, Ohangwena, and Omusati regions. Executive Director Linda
Nakale and her team led the engagement, inviting stakeholders to share
experiences, highlight gaps, and provide feedback on the proposed law.

The
Cybercrime Bill is designed to enhance protection for Namibians in the digital
space by criminalizing offenses such as online fraud, identity theft,
cyberbullying, hacking, online exploitation, and other cyber-related crimes.
The Ministry emphasized that the consultations are a key step in creating a law
that safeguards citizens while supporting the country’s digital development.
