Microsoft,
in partnership with the High Commission of India to Kenya, the Office of the
Special Envoy on Technology, Wadhwani AI, UNDP, Qhala, and PATH, has hosted the
AI for Impact: Global South Forum. The event served as a prelude
to the 2026 AI Impact Summit scheduled in New Delhi from February 16–20.

The
forum highlighted the need for AI adoption in Africa to focus on real-world
impact, inclusion, and scalable solutions rather than risk-centric discussions.
Participants emphasized that AI should enhance human capabilities and be
embedded in national delivery systems with strong government support and
investment in energy, cloud infrastructure, local-language models, and data
resources.

Challenges
such as energy limitations and digital skills gaps were acknowledged, but
speakers agreed that coordinated public-private action could address these
barriers. Insights from the Nairobi forum are expected to shape the Global
South’s collective approach to AI ahead of the summit in India.
