Rwanda
has reaffirmed its commitment to politically championed regional infrastructure
as a key driver of Africa’s digital and economic transformation during the
Virtual African Union Presidential Infrastructure Championing Initiative (PICI)
meeting.
The
country was represented by the Minister of Infrastructure, Dr. Jimmy Gasore, on
behalf of President Paul Kagame. The engagement brought together African
leaders and stakeholders to review progress and reinforce high-level political
support for strategic cross-border infrastructure projects across the
continent.

During
the meeting, Rwanda highlighted its flagship contribution under the PICI
framework, the East African Community (EAC) ICT Broadband Project, which is
championed by President Kagame. The project is aimed at expanding affordable,
reliable, and seamless digital connectivity across East Africa, strengthening
regional integration and supporting inclusive economic growth.
Dr.
Gasore underscored Rwanda’s continued dedication to regional cooperation and
infrastructure development, noting that coordinated political leadership
remains critical to unlocking the full potential of digital infrastructure in
accelerating Africa’s transformation.
