The
Airbus Launchpad has officially opened in Stevenage, supported by £3.9 million
in funding from the UK Space Agency, marking a significant step in
strengthening the United Kingdom’s space innovation ecosystem.
The
new facility is designed to support small and medium-sized enterprises,
start-ups and research organisations by providing access to specialist
laboratories, collaborative workspaces and advanced testing facilities. Access
will be offered through a no-cost residency programme, aimed at reducing
barriers for emerging companies developing space technologies.
From
early February, the first cohort of resident companies will include Applied
Atomics, Spintex and Stars Edge. These organisations will use the Launchpad’s
facilities to advance the development, testing and validation of their
technologies, benefiting from proximity to Airbus expertise and infrastructure.
The
Airbus Launchpad forms part of broader efforts by the UK Space Agency and
industry partners to accelerate innovation, foster collaboration and support
the growth of high-potential space businesses, reinforcing the UK’s position as
a leading hub for space research and commercialisation.
