Zimbabwe’s Minister of Information Communications Technology, Postal and Courier Services, Hon. Tatenda Mavetera, has held a series of high-level engagements with leaders of the country’s telecommunications industry to advance the national digital transformation agenda.

The Minister met with Eng. Raphael Mushanawani, Group Chief Executive Officer of NetOne Cellular Private Limited, Eng. Learnmore Nkala, Chief Executive Officer of TelOne Zimbabwe, and Dr. Doug Mboweni, Chief Executive Officer of Econet Wireless Zimbabwe. The discussions focused on accelerating the adoption of artificial intelligence across industries, reducing data prices to improve affordability and digital inclusion, and expanding national infrastructure capacity to support innovation and economic growth.

Sector-wide challenges, including regulatory costs, were also addressed during the meetings. Hon. Mavetera reaffirmed government’s commitment to improving the ease of doing business, referencing the December announcement to review fees and levies downward in support of industry sustainability and investment.

Econet Wireless outlined progress on the development of an Industrial Park and a hyperscale data centre with GPU-supported infrastructure, aimed at strengthening Zimbabwe’s readiness to participate in the global artificial intelligence ecosystem. NetOne and TelOne, on their part, shared forward-looking plans to enhance digital infrastructure, including the rollout of 5G and next-generation technologies, supported by practical use cases designed to transform connectivity nationwide.

The engagements underscore government’s collaborative approach with industry stakeholders to build a resilient, inclusive and digitally empowered Zimbabwe positioned for future growth.
