Ethio telecom, Somcable explore partnership to expand cross-border digital connectivity

Ethio telecom Chief Executive Officer Frehiwot Tamru has hosted a high-level strategic engagement with a delegation from Somcable to explore opportunities for a strategic partnership in international digital and telecommunications business, with a strong focus on cross-border collaboration.

The Somcable delegation was led by Chairman Mohamed Said Guedi and Chief Executive Officer Mohammed Ibrahim Ahmed. Discussions focused on accelerating growth in potential overseas markets through advanced digital and communications solutions, in line with Ethio telecom’s long-term strategic direction.

During the engagement, Frehiwot Tamru briefed the delegation on Ethio telecom’s transformation journey, recent performance, and forward-looking priorities. She highlighted the company’s institutional strengths and extensive national infrastructure, positioning Ethio telecom as a key enabler of regional digital connectivity.

Referencing Ethio telecom’s “Next Horizon: Digital & Beyond 2028” strategy, the CEO underscored the company’s ambition to expand its digital solutions beyond Ethiopia’s borders. “Collaboration is instrumental to unlocking growth. This partnership enables us to share our experience and infrastructure to create shared value and advance digital empowerment across Africa,” she said.

The Somcable delegation commended Ethio telecom’s progress and transformation. Chairman Mohamed Said Guedi expressed appreciation for the engagement, noting that he was “very proud to be partnering with one of Africa’s leading operators,” and emphasized a shared vision for strengthening the continent’s digital future.

Somcable CEO Mohammed Ibrahim Ahmed described the engagement as a strategic alliance with broader impact, stating, “This is more than a partnership between two companies; it is a collaborative commitment to harnessing technology to unlock human potential across Ethiopia and contribute to a more connected and prosperous Africa.”

Both parties agreed to build on their existing relationship by enhancing the current international internet capacity lease agreement and exploring additional areas of strategic collaboration. Ethio telecom reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging its robust infrastructure and technical expertise to drive innovation and expand its footprint in the global digital market.
