The
United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), in
collaboration with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Innovation has organized
a hybrid consultative workshop to review and refine Djibouti’s draft national
artificial intelligence strategy ahead of its official adoption.
The
workshop convened representatives from public institutions involved in the
design and implementation of digital projects and initiatives, providing a
platform for in-depth discussions on the proposed strategy. Participants
examined key policy priorities, governance considerations, and the potential
socio-economic impact of artificial intelligence, with the aim of enriching and
updating the draft framework.

Discussions
also drew on selected international experiences, allowing participants to
review examples of national AI strategies and assess best practices that could
inform Djibouti’s approach. The engagement forms part of ESCWA’s broader
efforts to support AI governance and digital transformation across the region,
ensuring that emerging technologies are aligned with national development
objectives and institutional capacities.
The
consultative process is expected to contribute to the development of a coherent
and forward-looking AI strategy that supports innovation, strengthens public
sector efficiency, and promotes responsible and inclusive use of artificial
intelligence in Djibouti.
