The
National Space Program Management Office (GGPEN), the National Institute of
Meteorology and Geophysics (INAMET), and the Southern Africa Centre for Science
and Services for Climate Change Adaptation and Adaptive Soil Management
(SASSCAL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to implement and expand the
Drought Relief Project Platform in Angola.
The
agreement formalizes institutional cooperation to share satellite, climate, and
environmental data, develop drought prediction models, and create products,
services, and systems that support Angola’s climate change and sustainable soil
management programs. The partnership also includes training and technical
qualification for national specialists, joint research, and integration of the
platform into regional and continental networks.

The
MoU was signed at GGPEN headquarters by Director General Zolana Rui João,
Director General of INAMET João Maria de Sousa Afonso, and SASSCAL Executive
Director Nelago Indongo. The event also showcased the products and services of
Angola’s National Space Program.
SASSCAL
is a regional initiative led by Angola, Botswana, Namibia, South Africa,
Zambia, and Germany, focused on innovative research and teaching programs
addressing global change challenges in Southern Africa.
