The
Orange Digital Center has officially launched a free Coursera training
programme for journalists in Sierra Leone, following the hosting of a training
orientation session that marked the start of the initiative.
The
orientation, held at the Orange Digital Center, introduced participants to the
structure and scope of the programme, outlining what they can expect throughout
the training period. Sessions focused on providing an overview of the Coursera
learning platform, explaining course content, and offering guidance on how
participants can maximise the opportunities presented by the programme.

The
event opened with welcome remarks from Danetta Younge, General Secretary of
Orange Sierra Leone, who reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to capacity
building and professional development within the media sector. She emphasised
the importance of continuous learning in strengthening journalism practice and
adapting to the evolving digital media landscape.
Further
contributions were made by Annie Wonnie Katta, Director of the Orange Sierra
Leone Foundation, alongside representatives from Truth Media, Liberty Online
TV, The Times Newspaper and the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ).
Speakers shared practical insights, professional experiences and words of
encouragement, highlighting the value of upskilling for journalists in an
increasingly competitive and technology-driven environment.

Organisers
noted that the training is expected to equip participants with relevant digital
and professional skills, enhancing their ability to produce quality journalism
and expand future career opportunities. The programme forms part of Orange
Digital Center’s broader efforts to support media development and digital
inclusion in Sierra Leone.
