Nigeria’s
National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the National
Broadcasting Commission (NBC) have begun discussions aimed at strengthening
inter-agency collaboration to advance digital transformation and modern
regulatory frameworks within the country’s media and technology sectors.
The
engagement took place when the Director General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa
Abdullahi, received the Director General of the NBC, Mr. Charles Ebuebu, for
talks focused on aligning institutional efforts in response to Nigeria’s
rapidly evolving digital landscape.
Both
leaders emphasized the importance of cooperation between public institutions in
promoting local media empowerment, facilitating knowledge transfer, and
preserving and enhancing Nigeria’s cultural influence while ensuring effective
and forward-looking regulation.

During
the meeting, Inuwa noted that digital transformation should be viewed as a
continuous and iterative process rather than a one-off initiative. He
highlighted the need for sustained improvement across three key pillars—people,
processes and technology—and outlined NITDA’s progress in driving cultural and
mindset shifts, reducing bureaucratic bottlenecks, implementing Project NEXT
and strengthening preparedness for emerging technologies such as artificial
intelligence.
As
part of efforts to deepen collaboration, NITDA proposed several practical areas
of support for the NBC, including sharing its digital transformation playbook,
delivering targeted training and capacity-building programmes, enrolling NBC
staff in digital literacy initiatives developed with technology partners such
as Cisco, and providing expert input to support the modernization of regulatory
frameworks.
The
meeting concluded on a positive note, with both agencies reaffirming their
commitment to sustained collaboration in support of the growth and resilience
of Nigeria’s media and technology sectors.
