Kenya
has officially launched the Kenya Cybersecurity Resilience Project, marking a
significant milestone in the country’s efforts to strengthen its cybersecurity
ecosystem and safeguard its expanding digital infrastructure.
The
launch, which also saw the inauguration of the project’s first steering
committee, brought together key national and international stakeholders,
including the European Union, the Ministry of Information, Communications and
the Digital Economy, the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, the
National Computer and Cybercrimes Coordination Committee, the Communications
Authority of Kenya, the National Treasury and Expertise France.

The
36-month initiative is funded by the European Union and is being implemented by
Expertise France as the lead partner, in collaboration with EstDev. The project
aims to enhance Kenya’s capacity to prevent, detect and respond to cyber
threats, while building public trust in digital services as the country
continues to advance its digital transformation agenda.
Speaking
at the launch, the Principal Secretary for the State Department of ICT and
Digital Economy, Eng. John Kipchumba Tanui, CBS, underscored that cybersecurity
has become a national priority, critical to economic growth, public confidence
and the protection of democratic values. He noted that the project aligns with
Kenya’s National Cybersecurity Strategy and the Digital Master Plan,
translating long-term policy objectives into concrete action.
The
official launch was presided over by the Principal Secretary for the State
Department for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, Mr. Steve Isaboke, EBS. The
project places strong emphasis on public awareness and inclusion, with plans
for nationwide cyber hygiene campaigns targeting women, youth and users of
digital public services. These efforts will be supported by an interactive
online training and certification platform aimed at improving cybersecurity
awareness and skills across the country.

Also
in attendance were Mr. Romain Boyer, Political Counsellor at the French
Embassy, Mr. Jorge Pereiro Piñon, Head of Cooperation at the European Union
Delegation in Kenya, and Ms. Elisabeth Rivier, Project Manager at Expertise
France.
Stakeholders
noted that the Kenya Cybersecurity Resilience Project is expected to play a
pivotal role in building a secure, trusted and resilient digital environment,
supporting the continued growth of Kenya’s digital economy and the safe
delivery of digital public services.
