Egypt’s
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has held a high-level meeting to review
strategic priorities aimed at advancing the country’s telecommunications sector
and strengthening the foundations of a knowledge-based economy.
The
meeting brought together Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of
Communications and Information Technology Dr. Amr Talaat, and Engineer Mohamed
Shamroukh, Chief Executive Officer of the National Telecommunications
Regulatory Authority. According to Ambassador Mohamed El Shinawy, Spokesperson
for the Presidency, the discussions focused on recent developments and future
plans within the communications and information technology sector.
During
the meeting, the Minister of Communications and Information Technology
presented a range of newly launched services, including fifth-generation mobile
services, WiFi Calling, and the inauguration of the National Center for
Monitoring Frequency Spectrum Usage. These initiatives form part of broader
efforts to modernise Egypt’s digital infrastructure and enhance service quality
nationwide.
The
President was also briefed on plans to support and expand mobile networks
across the country, with a focus on achieving comprehensive internet and mobile
coverage in cities, villages and underserved areas. Updates were provided on
the progress of national digital infrastructure projects, including the
replacement of copper networks with fibre-optic cables and the expansion of
mobile tower construction.
Discussions
further highlighted the critical role of private-sector companies in driving
growth and innovation in the communications and information technology sector.
President El-Sisi stressed the importance of exploring opportunities to develop
data centres and cloud computing services, expanding local manufacturing of
telecommunications equipment, and establishing effective mechanisms to support
and promote domestic products.
The
meeting reaffirmed the government’s commitment to accelerating digital
transformation, improving connectivity and positioning Egypt as a competitive
regional hub for telecommunications and digital services.
