African CDC praises Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute for driving AI ecosystem development

Dr. Jean Casey, Director General of the African Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), has lauded the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute for its organized approach and contributions to the expansion of Africa’s AI ecosystem.

During his visit, Dr. Casey highlighted Ethiopia’s strategic focus on artificial intelligence as a model for self-reliance and innovation on the continent. He commended Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed for advancing the country’s AI agenda and creating an environment conducive to research, capacity building, and infrastructure development.

The discussions covered successful AI applications in health, agriculture, public administration, and smart city initiatives. Dr. Casey also praised the institute’s support for youth engagement through the AI Startup Center, emphasizing its role in nurturing talent for a robust AI ecosystem in Ethiopia and across Africa.

The visit underscores Ethiopia’s growing prominence in artificial intelligence development and its potential to serve as a regional hub for innovation and AI-driven solutions.
