MTN
Group President and Chief Executive Officer, Ralph Mupita, has outlined the
company’s strategic priorities for 2026, reaffirming its focus on connectivity,
fintech and digital infrastructure as key drivers of growth and shared value
creation across Africa.
In
a New Year message to staff, Mupita reflected on what he described as a
milestone year for the Group, marked by the completion of its Ambition 2025
strategy and the achievement of serving more than 300 million customers. He
said the milestone places MTN among the top 10 mobile operators globally and
cements its position as the largest mobile operator in Africa.
Mupita
credited the achievement to the collective efforts of MTN employees over the
years, as well as the support of stakeholders, noting that the company’s
progress builds on more than three decades of investment and commitment across
its markets.
Looking
ahead, he said MTN is entering 2026 with confidence and a clear sense of
purpose, despite a challenging global environment shaped by geopolitical and
macroeconomic pressures. He explained that the next phase of MTN’s strategy
will be centred on strengthening three core platforms: connectivity, fintech
and digital infrastructure.
On
connectivity, Mupita said the Group will focus on scaling data services,
expanding home connectivity and enabling enterprises. In fintech, the emphasis
will be on broadening the ecosystem and delivering more advanced services
tailored to evolving customer needs. He added that MTN’s digital infrastructure
strategy will prioritise the expansion of fibre networks and the development of
data centres that are ready to support artificial intelligence-driven
workloads.
Mupita
also highlighted the role of artificial intelligence in improving operational
efficiency and enhancing service delivery across the Group. He stressed that
innovation will continue to be guided by MTN’s commitment to creating shared
value for stakeholders and contributing to Africa’s socio-economic development.
Beyond
commercial objectives, he underscored MTN’s responsibility to the societies in
which it operates, pointing to the work of the Group’s foundations in promoting
digital skills and enabling communities. According to him, these efforts are
aimed at creating dignity, hope and opportunity across the continent.
He
concluded by expressing optimism about the year ahead, acknowledging the
challenges that may arise while reaffirming confidence in MTN’s ability to
navigate them and continue leading digital solutions for Africa’s progress.
