Cameroon
Telecommunications (CAMTEL) and Commercial Bank-Cameroun (CBC) have
consolidated a syndicated financing package worth FCFA 44.884 billion to
support the first phase of CAMTEL’s Mobile Network Expansion (MNE) project.
The
agreement was signed on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, in Yaoundé and marks a
major milestone in CAMTEL’s efforts to densify, desaturate and extend mobile
network coverage across Cameroon. The MNE project is a strategic infrastructure
initiative aimed at strengthening the country’s telecommunications backbone and
improving service quality nationwide.
The
financing arrangement is structured with CBC serving as Lead Underwriter, Lead
Arranger and Collateral Agent. The transaction underscores renewed confidence
from the banking sector in CAMTEL’s business model as well as the relevance of
its digital transformation agenda.
Beyond
the deployment of network infrastructure, the MNE project is positioned as a
catalyst for broader economic and social impact. It is expected to contribute
to the growth of Cameroon’s digital economy, support innovation and
entrepreneurship, and improve access to digital public services for citizens
and businesses.
Commenting
on the development, CAMTEL Managing Director Judith Yah Sunday epse Achidi said
the financing would enhance the company’s capacity to accelerate network
deployment and improve operational efficiency. She noted that the funding would
enable CAMTEL to expand coverage more rapidly and effectively in response to
growing demand for mobile services.
Through
this transaction, CAMTEL and CBC reaffirm their leadership roles and shared
commitment to strengthening digital infrastructure as a driver of growth,
innovation and inclusion across Cameroon.
