The
Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology of Eswatini, in
partnership with the Eswatini Communications Commission’s Eswatini Data
Protection Authority, has hosted a Data Protection Officers Certification Event
aimed at strengthening data protection compliance and responsible data
management across the country.

The
event was held at the ESCCOM Head Offices in Ezulwini and brought together Data
Protection Officers and key stakeholders from both the public and private
sectors. The engagement provided a platform to reinforce privacy culture and
promote adherence to Eswatini’s data protection legislation and international
best practices.
Discussions
during the certification event underscored the critical role of Data Protection
Officers in safeguarding personal data, ensuring institutional compliance, and
supporting accountable and ethical data governance frameworks. Participants
also exchanged perspectives on emerging privacy risks and the evolving
responsibilities of DPOs in a rapidly digitising environment.

The
Ministry and its partners reiterated their commitment to building institutional
capacity and fostering a robust data protection ecosystem in Eswatini, as part
of broader efforts to strengthen trust in digital services and support the
country’s digital transformation agenda.
