The
Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has strengthened its capacity
development efforts with the participation of its officials in a week-long Data
Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) Train-the-Trainer Specialists programme
held in the United Kingdom.

The
programme was led by the National Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of
the NDPC, Dr Vincent Olatunji, alongside selected members of staff, in line
with the Capacity Development pillar of the Commission’s Strategic Roadmap and
Action Plan. The training is aimed at deepening institutional expertise in DPIA
and enhancing internal capacity to support effective data protection regulation
and compliance in Nigeria.
The
initiative aligns with the NDPC’s broader objective of building a sustainable
and globally competitive data privacy workforce. It is expected to contribute
to the creation of more than 500,000 jobs within Nigeria’s data privacy
ecosystem, supporting the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu
(GCFR), which targets the generation of one million jobs in the digital
ecosystem and the attainment of a $1 trillion digital economy by 2030.

The
capacity-building programme is a professional certification course facilitated
by the Data Privacy Academy under TRECCERT accreditation. It reinforces
adherence to international best practices in data protection, strengthens
regulatory competence, and enhances the credibility and consistency of data
protection training and compliance delivery across Nigeria.
The
engagement reflects the NDPC’s ongoing commitment to continuous professional
development and to positioning Nigeria’s data protection framework in line with
global standards.
