The Director General of South Sudan’s National Communication Authority (NCA), Mr. Rizig Dominic Samuel, has chaired a high-level meeting with mgi communications ag to formally establish the Gateway Services and Data Center Oversight Committee.

The newly constituted committee is mandated to strengthen governance, accountability, and institutional control over the country’s international gateway services and national data centre operations. Its core responsibilities include the digitisation of revenue streams from the South Sudan International Gateway, the modernisation of gateway and data centre infrastructure, and the enforcement of operational standards that safeguard national sovereignty and security interests.

According to the NCA, the initiative forms part of broader efforts to enhance regulatory oversight within the communications sector while ensuring that revenues generated from critical national infrastructure are transparently collected and managed. The digitisation of revenue collection is expected to improve efficiency and ensure that national communication resources contribute directly to economic growth and technological independence.

The establishment of the oversight committee also aligns with South Sudan’s digital transformation agenda, with a focus on upgrading infrastructure to support reliable, secure, and modern telecommunications services across the country.

mgi communications ag, a Swiss-based international telecommunications company, manages South Sudan’s international gateway services and critical data centre infrastructure. The firm specialises in integrated voice, data, and infrastructure management for emerging markets. Its current operations in South Sudan include modernising gateway technology, digitising national revenue streams, and expanding digital inclusion initiatives aimed at bridging connectivity gaps in underserved regions.

The NCA said the new governance framework marks an important step toward building a more resilient, secure, and accountable communications ecosystem in South Sudan.
