The
National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) has signed a Memorandum
of Understanding with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to
deploy Nigeria’s space-based capabilities in support of investigations,
accountability, and national security.
The
agreement was signed at the EFCC headquarters by NASRDA Director-General and
Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Matthew Adepoju, and is aimed at integrating
geospatial intelligence into law enforcement and anti-corruption efforts. Under
the partnership, NASRDA’s space assets will be applied to enhance investigative
speed, strengthen deterrence, and improve governance outcomes.
The
collaboration will enable the EFCC to access satellite imagery and
change-detection tools to support investigations into illegal mining and
environmental crimes. It will also provide advanced geospatial analytics for
asset tracing, allowing investigators to map networks and track financial flows
linked to economic and financial crimes.

In
addition, the partnership covers spectrum monitoring and compliance tools to
address misuse within the space and telecommunications domain, as well as
secure data-sharing arrangements and capacity-building initiatives to ensure
sustainable deployment of these capabilities within the EFCC.
According
to NASRDA, implementation of the MoU will commence immediately through a joint
work plan with clearly defined milestones, while maintaining strict adherence
to legal, regulatory, and ethical standards.
Dr.
Adepoju expressed appreciation to EFCC Executive Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede,
and the commission’s leadership for the collaboration, describing the
partnership as a significant step in leveraging space technology to support
accountability, national security, and effective governance in Nigeria.
