The
Minister of Communication, Telecommunications and Digital Affairs has paid a
working visit to Yas Senegal as part of ongoing engagements with key players in
the country’s telecommunications ecosystem.
The
visit provided an opportunity for direct and constructive dialogue, with
discussions centered on the strategic role of the telecommunications sector in
strengthening national sovereignty, enhancing economic competitiveness,
promoting territorial cohesion and ensuring equitable access to essential
services for citizens. The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to
creating a stable, clear and investment-friendly regulatory environment that
supports healthy competition and sustainable innovation.

Exchanges
during the meeting also addressed the economic balance of the sector, including
the management of spectrum and related fees. These issues, the Minister noted,
are being handled through a structured and consultative process under the
ongoing work of the PAENS framework. Attention was further given to major
technological transitions shaping the industry, with the government reiterating
its vision to support network development within a secure, transparent and
predictable framework.
The
discussions also covered the role of satellite technology as a complementary
component to existing terrestrial infrastructure. The Minister emphasized the
importance of a hybrid connectivity approach that combines terrestrial and
satellite solutions to enhance inclusive and resilient connectivity,
particularly in remote and underserved areas.

The
working visit forms part of the government’s broader effort to collaborate
closely with all stakeholders in building a telecommunications sector that is
robust, forward-looking and sustainable over the long term.
