Zimbabwe
has commissioned a new ICT hub at JITI High School in Shamva, Mashonaland
Central, marking a significant milestone in efforts to expand digital inclusion
in rural communities through inter-ministerial and private sector
collaboration.
The
facility was commissioned by the Minister of Information Communication
Technology, Postal and Courier Services, Hon. Tatenda Mavetera, together with
the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Hon. Torerai Moyo. The
initiative reflects a whole-of-government approach to closing the digital
divide and equipping learners with skills for the digital economy.

The
newly inaugurated hub is a fully containerised facility equipped with 40
high-end computers, a 10KVA solar power system and Starlink satellite
connectivity. The project was spearheaded by the private sector through Ground
Force Industrial, in line with the ICT ministry’s mandate to expand digital
infrastructure and connectivity nationwide.
As
part of the same outreach, government officials also handed over computers, a
Starlink device, printers and a whiteboard to Wadzanai High School, also
located in Shamva, reinforcing the commitment to inclusive access to digital
tools for education.
The
partnership between the Ministry of ICTPCS and the Ministry of Primary and
Secondary Education is aimed at ensuring that digital infrastructure
investments translate directly into improved learning outcomes and sustainable
capacity building for both students and teachers.
