The
Autorité de Protection des Données Personnelles of Benin (APDP-Benin) has
organised a three-day training seminar-workshop aimed at strengthening the
capacities of Data Protection Officers (DPOs) from public and private
organisations across the country.
Held
at the Golden Tulip – Hotel Le Diplomate, the programme formed part of
APDP-Benin’s efforts to promote a coordinated and sustainable approach to
personal data protection at a time when digitalisation is accelerating and data
governance responsibilities are expanding.

Opening
the workshop, the President of APDP-Benin, Dr Luciano Hounkponou, underscored
the strategic role of Data Protection Officers as a critical link between
organisations, users and the wider public. He noted that DPOs are responsible
for ensuring that data processing activities comply with applicable legal
frameworks, particularly the provisions of Benin’s Digital Code.
He
further emphasised that DPOs serve as ambassadors of data protection,
contributing to the establishment of trust between citizens and institutions by
embedding respect for privacy within organisational ethics and principles of
good governance.
The
training sessions combined experience sharing, in-depth discussions and
thematic modules focused on the roles, obligations and responsibilities of Data
Protection Officers. Participants engaged on practical challenges and best
practices in personal data protection within their respective organisations.

Through
this initiative, APDP-Benin reaffirmed its commitment to building a secure and
ethical digital environment that upholds fundamental rights, placing personal
data at the centre of national digital governance priorities.
